U.S. Senate Youth Program
5 WCUSD Students Nominated for Prestigious U.S. Senate Youth Program.

We are excited to share that 5 WCUSD students have been nominated for the prestigious. United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP)! This is a tremendous honor, as the USSYP is a highly competitive, unique educational experience for high schoolers interested in public service. Only two delegates are ultimately selected from each state to attend the event in Washington, D.C., from March 7-14, 2026. Delegates attend briefings with U.S. Senators and high-ranking officials from all three branches of government and also receive a $10,000 college scholarship. Congratulations to the following remarkable students on their nominations:

Edgewood High School: Mathew Chavez (ASB President)
Mt. SAC Early College Academy: Lauryn Marin (ASB President) and Tara Phapornchai (ASB Senior Activities Officer)
West Covina High School: Alex Chen (Principal’s Ambassador Council Secretary) and Kristiene Felipe (2027 Class Council Vice President)

We are incredibly proud of their achievements and eagerly await the final selection announcement in early December.
